Camp Mamie

Here we are! Back after a busy summer break from school. Henry was off for three weeks which was fabulous, except for the fact that work and daily life didn't go on vacation like the school did. In spite of the busy, puny mom and the busy, energetic little boy we had a great time.

First up was a trip to Dallas for "Camp Mamie". Mamie and Papa Gene spent the week spoiling us, which was fabulous. We played in the bath and the kiddie pool, visited Mema's big pool and even snuck in a quick trip to visit Papa in Wichita Falls...

14 months, first haircut, and a goose egg

Henry is 14 months old!  Friday was a big day with his first haircut followed immediately by his first real head-knocking. Here are some before photos:

Such luscious curls...

And then just a few minutes later:

I know, right? He was playing in his wagon and stumbled on his dismount. We chatted with the doctor's office and kept a close eye on him that night and all is well. He is now a perfectly healthy Klingon...

BBQ and parades

Must be that time of year! Last weekend Papa Gene stopped in for a visit after his annual BBQ quest and once again we were the lucky recipients of the spoils. We held an impromptu taste test and had a lot of fun eating a lot of really good meat.

And then on Wednesday we went with Amy to the neighborhood parade. We spent the rest of the day eating hot dogs and hamburgers and not taking photos, but here are the ones we did get that morning...

Happy 4th of July!

13 months

Henry has really changed a lot over the past six weeks or so. He's gone from tentative walking to full-on marching and charging up and down steps, hills and ramps. He says "Up," "Uh-oh," and "Yes"...usually more or less in context. He also started saying Da Da on Father's day, which was really cute. Of course when he sees Clay he generally says "Uh-oh," but that's ok. He's doing much better with his finger foods and is slowly but surely starting to eat more grown-up foods. We're also about to have to give up the bedtime bottle-- scary!

His first round of swimming lessons were a big success and we're so proud of him for being brave and a good sport. He's always carrying around either a bottle of some sort (sunscreen, lotion, shampoo, etc) or else a bucket and shovel. He also loves to play behind the curtains. He got a fleet of ride-on toys for his birthday and he loves every one of them and is always pushing them all over the house. He and Maggie fight like an old married couple over socks, sticks, cardboard or whatever else they get their hands (paws) on. Henry will also sometimes pet her which is just about the cutest thing ever...
